Jerusalem 3D Sidewalk Art for Hol Hamoed Passover 2016
What is Hol Hamoed? It is the intermediate days of Passover (and Sukkot), sandwiched by the holy days at the beginning and end of Passover. In Israel, Pesach is 7 days long with 5 days of Hol. In the United States and elsewhere outside of Israel, the holy days at the beginning and end are 2 days long each. So Passover is 8 days long with 4 days of Hol. Hol Hamoed literally means the mundane or secular part of the festival. Although work prohibitions are not as strict as on Shabbat and Holidays, there are many rules depending on an individual’s level of religious observance. For example, some Jews do not transact any business during hol hamoed. Shopping is only done for items necessary for the holiday. Of course, many Jews throughout the world and especially in Israel, use the occasion to take family vacations. Currently in Jerusalem is a free exhibit of some amazing 3D Sidwalk Art.
Another prohibition for observant Jews is that during the intermediate days of the festival, weddings are generally prohibited. However, engagements are permissible.
However you celebrate, we wish you a Happy and Joyous Passover.
